ASA Launches Veteran-focused Safe VA Care Comment Site
As part of a robust public outreach and engagement strategy, ASA has launched a refreshed version of www.SafeVACare.org to collect comments on VA’s proposed rule that would remove physician anesthesiologists from Veterans’ surgical care teams and lower the standard of care in VA facilities. The new website, which will allow users to submit their responses to VA’s proposed rule, now offers three different prompts for users, includes a “Get the Facts” page that details the patient safety concerns with the proposal, and offers new tools to share the campaign digitally.
Comments previously submitted by ASA members on www.SafeVACare.orgare still being transmitted from ASA to the Federal Register as part of the 60 day public comment period. ASA members are urged to continue to focus on the “1+5 Plan” to engage family, friends and colleagues in this advocacy. Other outreach resources and materials for engaging with your community, including posters and social media tools, can be found here (ASA-member only).
To Use the Site: When using the new site, users are prompted to choose from three different categories: I’m a Veteran; I’m a Relative of a Veteran; or I Care About Veterans. Pre-drafted comments are offered on the left side of the screen, although users are encouraged to add personalization, including reference to medical training and experience, an experience with physician-led anesthesia care, or family connections to Veterans. Once contact information is submitted on the right screen, the user can click “Send Message” to have their comment submitted to VA. Further opportunities for sharing, including social media outreach and opportunities to contact lawmakers, are available once the “Send Message” button is selected.
Please visit www.SafeVACare.org to view the new site design, or see the image below.
